Brainstorming

NOTE** As with my previous project and other before it, i will upload scans of my SKETCHBOOK, found at the end of the project, usually the last post. This avoids me uploading the same sketches etc multiple times, instead just make references to them and perhaps links.

Like most projects i began with a few brainstorms, (which you can see in SKETCHBOOK) During these brainstorms i took several factors into account, like should i make it sellable, profitable, or personal, and who is the target audience? tourists? families? children? adults? students?
Size, suitability, user friendly etc, what it could or should be made of, would it be realistic or perhaps using technology not yet available, example: holograms
I know these things sound like im getting ahead of myself, but you have to think of each of these things and more with any small initial idea, otherwise you run into problems later in the actual design process.

Since the project is memories and emotions envoked through these memories I brainstormed memories, emotions and how could one envoke memories through objects and senses, i was very interested in the nostalgia aspect of this, but the brainstorming has shown me i need a serious amount of research in this aspect if i want to portray memories and emotions clearly.

Of course the other major aspect of this project, especially at the start, is the fact its based on Austins department store... historical and a thriving business on its own but ive never actually been inside it, so one of the next steps is definitely a trip to Austins, i attempted to brainstorm the general things sold in a department store and how i could create an object similar that envokes memories of Derry-LondonDerry, but it became very apparent i needed first hand research before i could properly begin any initial ideas.
